About Fiberwood Art
Fiberwood Art is an independent publication dedicated to the craft of making things by hand. We cover woodworking, maker culture, workshop life, and the broader world of artisan craft — with a focus on practical knowledge, honest reflection, and the stories behind the work.
The site is written and maintained by Thomas Waverly, a woodworker and writer based in the English countryside. Thomas has spent over fifteen years working with wood — from rough carpentry to fine furniture — and believes that the best way to learn a craft is to practice it, share what you know, and stay curious about what you don't.
What We Cover
Our articles span three main areas:
- Woodcraft — Tools, techniques, materials, and the fundamentals of working with wood. From selecting the right species to applying the perfect finish, we aim to make woodworking knowledge accessible without dumbing it down.
- Maker Culture — The people, movements, and ideas shaping the world of handmade goods. We explore why making matters, how the maker economy works, and where craft intersects with design, fashion, and daily life.
- Workshop Life — The practical and philosophical side of running a workshop. Organization, workflow, selling your work, and the quiet satisfaction of spending time at the bench.
Our Approach
We write for makers at every level — from people considering their first project to experienced craftspeople looking for fresh perspectives. Our goal is to be useful, thoughtful, and honest. We don't chase trends or publish filler. Every article is written because we believe it has something worth saying.
If you have questions, suggestions, or just want to share something you've made, we'd love to hear from you. Visit our contact page to get in touch.
